Hello!


Welcome to Fresh & Balanced! Are you ready for an adventure? I know I sure am! I’m Kathryn, a Midwest girl excited to be following her passion in life. I started this blog to share my exciting adventure, going back to school for culinary training. After working in dead end and stressful jobs for the past three years in my original career field of marketing and public relations, I knew I needed to make a change. As I struggled to understand what my next step would be, I realized the answer had always been in front of me and I just hadn't seen it! Now I am excited to be following my passion, healthy eating and creating delicious healthy recipes.

You see, I have always had an obsession with cooking. While most kids asked for toys for Christmas, I wanted cookbooks, cooking utensils and aprons. Growing up, my summers were spent in my kitchen creating huge messes (sorry Mom!) and some delicious recipes. As I grew older I continued to experiment and share my love of healthy foods with my friends and family. I definitely have my Mom to thank for teaching me at a young age that food is fuel for your body and you must be careful and mindful of what you put in your mouth.

Throughout my life, I have tried fad diets, juice cleanses, detox regimes, you name it, I’ve tried it. Through all of the extremes I found myself in, I discovered that a balanced diet when followed consistently cuts through all of the fad diets that are popular today! So, when my original career path left me feeling unfulfilled and looking for more purpose in my life, I knew it was time to go back to the start and pursue my culinary roots.

This blog will share my experiences in culinary school, be a recipe box for my favorite recipes and a way for me to pass along my healthy eating and cooking tips with you!
