I love turkey burgers! They are a great way to utilize lean protein and are the perfect backdrop to add your favorite seasonings and flavors. This recipe is one of my favorite ways to prepare ground turkey. Flavorful and rich, this turkey burger blends the spicy kick of chicken wings and the smooth taste of blue cheese into one recipe. Top it off with a fresh tomato slice, crunchy onion and a slice of avocado and you have the makings of the most unique and flavorful turkey burger you have ever eaten! Added bonus, this recipe makes enough to have leftover patties for the next day or two, perfect for on the go lunches or when you need a protein boost!
1 pound lean ground turkey
1/4 cup of your favorite hot sauce
1 tablespoon ranch seasoning mix
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 tablespoon olive oil
Blue Cheese Spread
1/4 cup plain non fat Greek yogurt
1 T. hot sauce, or to desired heat level
1 T. crumbled blue cheese
6 Whole wheat buns OR you can use large romaine lettuce leafs as the bun
First, mix together ingredients for the blue cheese spread until well blended. Place in fridge until ready to use.
Next, mix together hot sauce, ranch seasoning mix, garlic, egg and bread crumbs until combined. Add in the ground turkey and mix until well blended. Form small patties with your hands and place in a large pan with olive oil. Cook on the stove over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side or until cooked through and middle of patties is no longer pink.
Smear the blue cheese spread on buns and add desired toppings. Enjoy!!
